On December 9, 2024, the first mini-symposium “Why Do Physicians Need Coaching?” was held online for all physicians and others. was held.
The lecturer was Dr. Mari Asakawa, Japan Primary Care Association certified family physician, Fellow of the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine, Doctor of Medicine (medical education), and a coaching doctor (representative of Leading HER, a coaching service for medical professionals).
In the lecture, after introducing evidence of effective coaching as a countermeasure against physician burnout, Dr. Asakawa explained about “Coaching Doctors,” who are physicians with the ability to provide coaching to medical professionals, the current situation overseas, the necessity of coaching in light of the characteristics of Japanese physicians, and the future outlook.
In the Q&A session, she answered questions that had been asked beforehand, such as the degree to which the words “psychological safety,” “self-compassion,” and “well-being” have penetrated among physicians, their relationship with team medicine, and how to secure time for communication and coaching in their busy daily lives. “Wellness Leadership,” which included topics such as fostering a culture, leaders showing vulnerability themselves, self-coaching recommendations, and how to access coaching.
As an additional lecture, she also explained measures that can be taken by the organization. Due to the differences in medical systems between Europe and the U.S., including the system of primary care and team medicine, it is difficult for medical staff to achieve Well-Being in the medical field alone, and we cannot move forward unless people know about it. It was very thought-provoking and very informative.

While there was a slight difference between the number of pre-registrants and the number of participants, so we checked and found that there were quite a few people who were not properly introduced to the Zoom link due to our mistake.
We apologize very much to those who pre-registered.
After discussing this with Dr. Asakawa, we have decided to start delivering the lecture video (on-demand format) at the beginning of the new year, and the Q&A portion will be available for a limited time only.
We will let you know when it is ready. Although this project is still in its infancy, we hope that you will not be discouraged by this and participate in it again.
