【KUSNoKI Co-organized】Seminar by World-Renowned Anthropologist Professor Arthur Kleinman

On Monday, September 15, 2025 (public holiday), we had the honor of hosting a seminar by Professor Arthur Kleinman at the HORIBA Symposium Hall, Kyoto University International Science Innovation Building.

Professor Kleinman, a pioneer in medical anthropology, has not only made significant academic contributions on themes such as human growth, care, and dignity, but has also served as a guiding light for countless people around the world.

For this occasion, he delivered a lecture titled “The Soul of Care: As a Husband, Doctor, Researcher, and Human Being.” He spoke passionately on care—his life’s work—covering not only the scholarly definitions of care, but also his beliefs and challenges as a practitioner of care. His talk further explored the future of care in the context of AI and social engineering, and the advocacy that care can teach us within society.

The event concluded with nearly thirty minutes of discussion with the audience and a lively book-signing session for his many enthusiastic fans, making it a truly interactive and memorable gathering.

This seminar was made possible through the introduction of Adjunct Professor Mariko GAKIYA (Graduate School of Management, Kyoto University). We would like to express our deepest gratitude.
