On Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 16:00 to 18:15, we had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Sanjay Saint, a leading internist and expert in medical education from the University of Michigan, as part of the Kyoto-NEXT project. Dr. Saint, a distinguished hospitalist and editorial board member of the New England Journal of Medicine, delivered a lecture titled “Case Conference on Clinical Reasoning and Diagnostic Medicine.”
The first part of the session was tailored to medical students and residents, where Dr. Saint explained clinical reasoning and diagnostic processes through case studies, occasionally incorporating Japanese into his explanations. Participants not only gained knowledge in clinical reasoning but also deepened their understanding of the medical environment and diagnostic approaches in the United States. This event also provided an invaluable opportunity for participants aspiring to study in the U.S. to build meaningful connections.
In the second part, Dr. Saint presented a lecture for clinical educators within our institution, titled “Mentorship for Clinical Educators.” In this session, he explored effective mentoring techniques and offered insights on enhancing instructional skills as clinical educators. The presentation, filled with practical ideas for educational settings, was highly acclaimed by attendees.
With a wide range of participants, including physicians, nurses, residents, and students, the event was a great success.
This lecture greatly contributed to the Kyoto-NEXT project’s goals of enhancing the quality of clinical education and fostering talents prepared for global opportunities. It also offered a valuable opportunity for faculty and students to learn together in a shared space.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Sanjay Saint for his inspiring contribution.
