Completion of the Second On-site Evaluation by JACME

The Faculty of Medicine at Kyoto University recently underwent the second on-site evaluation for the field-specific accreditation by the Japan Accreditation Council for Medical Education (JACME). JACME is an official organization that aims to fairly and appropriately evaluate medical education programs based on the international standards set by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). This recent evaluation is part of a significant seven-year review process for continued accreditation, with further procedures to follow, including the evaluation report, to determine whether accreditation will be maintained.

In preparation for this on-site evaluation, the faculty and staff of the Faculty of Medicine at Kyoto University collaboratively prepared a self-evaluation report through the efforts of the Field-specific Accreditation Preparation Working Group. The second on-site evaluation was conducted over four days, from June 4 to June 7, 2024, based on this report. Professor Kataoka from our center managed the self-evaluation and the on-site evaluation as the field-specific accreditation coordinator. With the cooperation of all relevant parties, the second on-site evaluation was successfully completed.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the evaluators, JACME staff, faculty and students who cooperated in the evaluation, and most importantly, to all those who continuously support medical education, including patients.

Field-specific Accreditation Preparation Working Group

The working group is chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and the Dean of the Graduate School, and comprises all professors of the Faculty of Medicine and staff from the Center for Medical Education and Internationalization. Since its inception in 2014, the group has continued to strive for ongoing improvement, even after the first accreditation review by JACME. Discussions on medical education are further deepened through group work conducted during the annual Kyoto University Retreat On Medical Education (KUROME), in which all professors participate.
