Kyoto University Faculty of Medicine Student Code of Conduct
Established by the Faculty of Medicine Professorial Council on March 13, 2025
The Student Code of Conduct is established based on the philosophy and objectives of Kyoto University and serves to inform both students and internal/external stakeholders of the principles that students of this university must adhere to.
As a student of the Kyoto University Faculty of Medicine, always maintain awareness of your role and strive to act in accordance with the following code of conduct.
1. Contribution to the Mission of the Faculty of Medicine
Understand the mission (philosophy and objectives) of the Kyoto University Faculty of Medicine and strive to contribute to it as a member of the institution.
2. Ethical Conduct
As a member of society before being a student, comply with laws and social norms. Maintain high ethical standards in all aspects of life, including academic and medical activities, and refrain from misconduct or inappropriate behavior.
3. Mutual Respect and Cooperation
Engage in sincere and appropriate communication with fellow students, faculty, and staff, and foster a culture of mutual respect and growth.
4. Consideration and Respect for Patients
Respect the rights, dignity, and privacy of patients and their families. Maintain a kind and courteous attitude in medical and healthcare settings, and strive to build trust with them.
5. Pursuit of Professionalism
Take pride and responsibility as a student of the Faculty of Medicine, and strive for a high level of professionalism (*) in medical practice and academic activities.
6. Commitment to Learning and Growth
Cultivate intellectual curiosity and an inquisitive spirit, continuously enhance your medical knowledge and skills, and strive for personal and professional growth.
(*) Professionalism: The professionalism of a physician is a lifelong pursuit that we must continuously question and refine.
Being a professional physician means making an ongoing effort to remain as sincere as possible toward patients and others.
To achieve this, always keep the following in mind and strive for personal development as a practitioner of medicine, healthcare, and public health:
- Enhance your character and uphold a strong ethical foundation, as it forms the basis of all professional conduct.
- Strive to deeply understand others, consider what is best for them in any situation, stay by their side, support, protect, and communicate appropriately.
- Continuously acquire advanced medical knowledge and skills, and make tireless efforts to improve them further.
